High quality Domitian Denarius missing in RIC 2.1
« on: May 10, 2018, 05:44:24 pm »
Hello everyone.

This beautiful denarius can not be technically defined as unpublished, since it was first described by Cohen (#179 quoting a M. Delgado), and from here in R.S.C. (179), RIC first edition (62), BMCRE (p. 315 Note).

However, it had been discarded by Carradice and Buttrey in RIC 2.1, as they were not aware of any specimens.
For the fourth issue of the year 85 (in itself very short) the Minerva M1 type was therefore described only in combination with the portrait type 2 (with aegis): it's RIC D 332 (R2).

Luckily, I have come across this high quality coin, which fills the hole and is expected to take the number 331A in a future edition of RIC 2.1.

I am quite happy to share it here.

Kind regards

Alberto

Most wonderful! I would've gone after it too if it wasn't for the fact I have several irons in the fire already!

However, I do have the aegis version of the type.
