Recently have caught up with coin photography and updated the

www.ptolemybronze.com

'coin photos' page for the first time in a few months.  There are several new types shown, including an uncatalogued late 2nd C. issue and a two-denomination lotus-flower series (Svoronos 1636 - 1637).  There are also a few corrections to the text.  Some improved specimen photographs have been included in the update as well, for types already on display.

Hope the updates and improvements are helpful to all needing a good photo-reference for Ptolemaic bronze coin study and identification.

Thanks again for your support - the Facebook page for the site now has well over 1200 followers with lots of representation outside the USA.   Tell your friends Smiley

I look forward to checking out the updates. Thanks.

The new material should be helpful.  In addition to the new uncatalogued late 2nd C. coin type and the Sv 1636 - 1637 display, there is also a new display of some of the early Ptolemy I Aphrodite portrait bronzes as well as a major clarification and reorganization of the display of Sicilian Ptolemaic bronzes and their imitative relatives issued by Hieron II.  More information came to light on those and they are a complex group so more commentary and details to help specifically identify them should be useful to collectors and cataloguers.  The updated 'Sicilian' group display is expanded to show more coins and more examples of the different portrait styles that are known for each of the control symbols.  The new display more clearly depicts the relationships among the imitative types' Sicilian Zeus portrait families.
