Saturday Night Coin Show ...

Yah, here is a cool group of amazingly old AE coins ... these four examples are all "cast" AE examples

I hope you like them (I find these old cast coins very interesting)

Sicily, Akragas Cast AE Trias (4 Onkia)
circa 450 BC
Diameter: 14 x 19 x 20 mm
Weight: 16.28 grams
Desc: Eagle standing left & trident of crab’s claws on sides, four pellets on base
Reference: SNG ANS 1015-7; CNS 1

SICILY, Akragas Æ Cast Onkia (1 Onkia)
Circa 450-440 BC
Diameter: 19 mm
Weight: 4.62 grams
Obverse: Eagle's head left
Reverse: Crab claw left
Reference: CNS 8; SNG ANS 1020

SICILY, Selinos Cast Æ Onkia (1 Onkia)
Circa 450-440 BC
Diameter: 15 mm
Weight: 4.14 grams
Obverse: Kantharos; pellet (mark of value) above
Reverse: Selinon leaf
Reference: Price, Selinus, Group IIIC; CNS 10; Puglisi 282; HGC 2, 1237

Diameter: 21 mm

Well, while I still have the mike I might as well toss-in my other two similar type examples ...

SICILY, Akragas. Æ Hemilitron
Late 5th century BC
Diameter: 28 mm
Weight: 14.71 grams
Obverse: Eagle standing right, tearing at hare
Reverse: Crab; six pellets around, crayfish below; c/m: head of Herakles right, wearing lion’s skin, within circular incuse
Reference: For undertype: cf. HGC 2, 136; for c/m: CNS 107 CM
Other: 11h .... green patina. Well preserved undertype.

Obverse: Crab
Reverse: Head of eagle right

Other: 11h … dark green patina, some cleaning marks, but very cool

Neat coins! You sure are showing me areas I haven't looked at before. Thanks for sharing. That first example could be used as a sling projectile.

Hi ickster => yes, these coins aren't exactly mainstreet examples (that's what makes them very cool to me ... sometimes it's awesome to collect coins that are semi-off-the-beaten-path)
