coin storage boxes
« on: May 16, 2017, 03:12:54 pm »
New coin storage boxes.
Previously I stored the majority of my coins in binders but this made viewing coins more difficult.
I like to look at them not behind plastic.  I have two boxes each hold 7 trays of 40 coins.  Each tray has its own cover to keep coins in place.  I know they are not exactly museum quality but they work for me.
I am looking at a few coins on the Forum catalog and hoping for a store wide sale as I missed the last one.

Very nice,

Did you make the boxes yourself or purchase them?

I made the boxes and trays.  I am retired now and don't have the nice shop I had when working but they turned out OK.

Very impressive,

I am certain there is a market for these if you made more.

Nice work!  There is definitely a market.

Now not every wood, glue, stain and felt type is great for coins.  It is worth monitoring the coins over the next year to see if you seen any change in condition.

It looks like the front is open with a good bit of space for air to circulate which is good.

My father made me two nice coin cabinets a year and a half ago.  One out of aged mahogany, but he also made a "test" one out of pine.  He was almost going to scrap that one but I took it to and am monitoring to see if there is really any difference on the coins I keep in them.......

Like the boxes, wish I had skills but have neither tools nor skill.  Thought this was a chance to show my storage method.  Bought two of these at Staples.  Holds 11 , 2" by2" trays, 4 by 6 spaces.  You can double them up if necessary.  The tray sticks out about an inch but I haven't found that a problem.  They're particle board with a veneer but I've used them for several years and had no problems.  Not beautiful but funtional for a small collection.

Sorry my photo is sideways.  Couldn't get it to turn.  I lack skill there also.  If you click the picture it turns properly.  Sorry

Hi Bill,

Do you store your coins inside coin flips in the trays - I can see what looks like coin flips in the photo.

I cut the flips, lay that on top of the tag and put the coin on that.
