Most probably Rare Denomination-Not in Bendall

4 items as Byzantine weight with different shape and weights:all with IB FROM MY PRIVATE cOLLECTION
-034: BYZANTINE square commercial weight of 4 nomismata:18g [20 x 6 mm] IB in the middle without cross-bendall:-?
-037: BYZANTINE. Bronze weight. Circa 6th-7th century AD. Barrel weight for 4 nomismata? 15g[14 x 11 mm]-I 0 B in the middle-Bendall:-
-040: BYZANTINE square commercial weight of Half ounce or 3 nomismata:12,7g [18 x 4 mm] IB in the middle without cross-bendall:?-
-054: BYZANTINE circular commercial weight of half nomisma ?2,1g [13 x 1,5mm] with IB in the middle inlaid in silver-Bendall:-
only the circular weight is corresponding with similar weigth

Given that the IB on the weight in question has been roughly hacked this is presumably a makeshift weight rather than a regular type.

Yes, I agree, perhaps made by a shopkeeper for his own use. I think many ancient weights could be called makeshift, some better than others.

yes, I have wondered on with the variety of weights many are tough to attribute due to the range of those found.

that is a nice weight in 054, with the silver inlay I suspect it was for the weighing of coin or silver/gold. I would attribute it as it weighs 2.1g as a 12 (IB) siligua (of .18 each) weight.

weight no 40 (12.7g) I agree is 3 nomisma/12 scripulum weight (of near 1.1g each) weight

weight no 37 is a 3 nomisma/12 scripula weight somewhat over weight at 15 g


no 34 I agree is a 4 nomisma weight but that being said that equals 12 tremissis of 1.5g each?

Just my thoughts.
