Avatar Help
« on: February 20, 2016, 03:43:29 pm »
I want to change my avatar to the attached picture, but every time I try to upload it says it is too large or not an avatar.  I re-sized multiple times so I don't think it is the size.  Any suggestions?  Maybe because it isn't a perfect square?

That didn't work either.  I even tried doing it via URL:

https://manfacedbulls.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/avatar.jpg?w=630

I've tried jpeg and gif files.

Thanks.  However, now it says :

"Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information."

I'll try again now.

I wonder if the fact that I'm using a split screen as my daughter watches cartoons on youtube is having an effect on the upload time?  Otherwise, perhaps my virtual identity is so inseparable from the original pic the computer gods will not allow a change!

I am not sure why you are having problems, but I like the current whole-coin avatar better than the close-up.

Try as I might, I cannot add an avatar.  I get both types of error messages described by Molinari, even after reducing the image to 70X70 pixels.  Help!

I never did find a solution.  I didn't play around much but maybe it is the browser.  I was using Chrome and didn't try any others.

I just tried using Explorer, rather than Chrome (which I had been using), and I got the "unable to" message.  The image is in .jpg.  Oh well.

Hi Laney,

The maximum allowed size for avatars are 85 x 200 pixels. The avatar does not have to be square (mine isn't) but it has to be jpg.

If it is any help my avatar is 0.84 X 1.3 inches at a resolution of 96 pixels per inch. it takes up about 3.00KB.

Unless something has changed it shouldn't make any difference whether you are using Internet Explorer or Chrome, but I mostly use Chrome and Firefox myself and there may be a problem with Internet Explorer that I'm unaware of.

*Alex.

Hi Alex--the image is set for 70 pixels per inch, and is one inch square, so it theoretically should fit just fine.
