Antoninus Pius sestertii to BOT
« on: April 15, 2015, 04:13:59 am »
I have just uploaded records of two of my rarest and best preserved sestertii to BOT:

- A rare Aeneas type with obverse exclusively designed for this reverse (Top coin):
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-120023 ;

- An extremely rare seated Salus variant, second specimen known (the first one being from the Elberling collection, in Cohen, 2nd ed., 1880) (Bottom coin):

"An extremely rare seated Salus variant,"
Both great, but the Salus coin is INCREDIBLE!

Thank you Pete.  I'm going to upload a few more well preserved but less rare sestertii to BOT later today, but the Salus coin is indeed the very best in my entire collection !

I just finished uploading two more Antoninus Pius sestertii to BOT:

- Juno Sospita, https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-120077

and

- Aequitas, https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-120076: very common and not EF, but I like the details on the reverse, especially the fine features and face of Aequitas.

Regards,
Charles

I have uploaded one more Antoninus Pius sestertius from my collection.

It is an Aequitas reverse, the only sestertius type issued during tribunician year XIII (149-150).  I have two specimens in my collection, but this one is in really nice condition: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-120483

Hello Charles,

your collection of Antoninus is really impressive.

I suppose you have visited Nemausus (Nîmes), his family town, and have a picture of yourself under its statue in the main alley!

Congratulations

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

Thank you very much indeed.

Yes, I have been in Nîmes, several times.  Unfortunately, I do NOT have a picture of the statue, let alone with myself!  However, I did take pictures of the one of the best preserved Roman temple in the world: la Maison Carrée, absolutely magnificent !  So here it is instead.

Cheers
Charles

I agree, it's one of the better preserved Roman temples I've ever seen.

In the local museum of Vaison la Romaine (not too far from Nîmes) I've taken this shot of a Domitian marble (no selfie at that time...).

Beautiful, I like especially the aegis he is wearing, thank you for sharing.  Next time I'm there, I'll have to visit this museum.
