Is it possible, that this is Neptun/Poseidon holding a Trinacrius?

Jochen

Hi Jochen Sorry may be you are right but I find this :

"In late 47 BC Caesar was on Sicily, preparing for his assault on the Pompeian forces in north Africa. During this period a small issue of denarii was produced in his name by Aulus Allienus, then the proconsul of Sicily. The reverse shows a figure of Trinacrus, supposedly a son of Neptune, who may have been invented to account for the name Trinacria, commonly used for Sicily. The coins of Allienus must have seen considerable circulation: almost all surviving specimens are considerably worn."

Another gryphion:

Thrace, Abdera, 352-323 BC (VIII period)
AR - Triobol, 1.5g, 12.98mm, 0°
obv. Gryphion l., leaping up, beak somewhat opened, hind feet on club, above 8 pointed star
       below MHNO
rev. Square, made of lines, within head of Apollo(?) with laurel wreath in short hairs; field only little deepened.
Around the square ABD - HRI - TE - WN (beginning at top)
ref. AMNG II, 206 (3 ex., Copenhagen, London, Ratto)
rare, VF

Sometimes the head is called Abderos.

Gorgo:

Mysia, Parion, 2nd - 1st c. BC
AE 22, 6.21g, 0°
obv. Head of Gorgo, with snakes and wings, frontal, in dotted circle
in r. field c/m: monogram in circular incus
rev. PA - RI - WN
Eagle with open wings stg. r., before monogram, all in laurel wreath
ref. BMC Mysia, p.100, 69; SNG von Aulock 1330; SNG France 1404
about VF/F, green patina with earthen highlights

Strong portrait! Here the transition from the original grimacing, terror spreading monster into the melancholic , suffering being of the late Hellenistic time is almost finished.

Best regards

Not my best photo.
In hand the coin is much nicer and is lustrous.
A pegasos reverse issued under Domitian.
