I'd like to hear any opinions on Ren Wax- whether or not it is dangerous for coins, if this is an acceptable method of preservation for most numismatists, or any tips on the best way to apply it. As always, your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I use it quite often. I like the way it make the coins look. though I don't know the exact level of protection it offers for Bronze disease and the like, I would assume it gives at least a little, since it seals out moisture and air.
I just apply it with my fingers, rubbing the coin vigerously with a generous dab. The heat from your hands will warm the wax and melt it allowing it to get into all the pores and crevices. Then i let it dry and buff it out either by hand with a soft cloth , or with a soft nylon wheel on my Dremel mini mite. The Dremel gives a bity higher gloss so it is more a matter of preference than anything else.

My container arrived yesterday and I am very pleased with the results.
According to the label, Ren-Wax is a safe, reversable way to preserve coins- and yes, it does add a nice shine to coins that would be otherwise unappealing.

Do you suggest using it on silver? My impression was that it was mainly used on bronzes, although I had heard of some people using it on their silver coins.

I use it on silver all the time. It does keep finger oils/acids off the coins if you handle them without gloves. Nothing uglier than a silver coin with a finger print in it.

When I first got Ren-wax I actually thought the wax dulled the coin a bit; I was a bit disappointed but was probably using too much.
The epiphany came when I took out some of the wax-dulled coins and attached a felt wheel to the dremel mini-mite I had just bought. As I buffed the waxed coin with the felt wheel, in my estimation the eye-appeal and detail of the coin increased 100%!! The coin really came to life, and details popped out. Now I use this procedure with all my bronze coins. Haven't tried silver.
