Possible fake Sextus Pompey
« on: March 20, 2023, 07:13:28 pm »
I purchased this coin from a reputable online auction house. Their site says they guarantee the authenticity of all coins and items sold. I also email them and they indicated the coin in original and all coins in the auction are issued after checking by our expert numismatists.

I have my doubts on this coin though.  Weight is 3.05g and size is 19mm.

Please let me know what you think - real or fake?

For some reason the pic did not attach.  Trying this again.

Hi FC,

Why do you suspect it is fake?

I don't see anything suspicious about it.

The light weight and the surface.

Merely very corroded--which explains both the surface and the light weight.

Thanks to everyone for your reply. Glad to hear it's likely not fake.
