8mm from Palestine-Israel region
« on: March 27, 2012, 09:57:00 pm »
This tiny 8mm AE coin was found in Israel/Palestine.
The obverse is somewhat incuse and has a bare-headed, bearded male head right with a long, square cut beard (the face is quite thick so on the image, you need to look at the dark outline to the right of the brighter part).
The reverse is a female head right with hair bound in a stephane.
Does anyone know which city it could be from ?

Looks Samaritan or perhaps Philisto-Arabian.

It looks like the coin may be:

Hi Aarmale

Is AE a typo? Samarian fractions are AR.

It's very difficult to tell with it being so small, it's not all silvery and I just presumed it was AE because of the colour, but looking at the ANS example, theirs doesn't look so silvery either. I am sure it is the same type though.

I bet it's AR under there. It looks like Meshorer and Qadar 186.

Thanks for the ref. number, Richard. I might pop it into watered-down lemon juice for a few seconds but it's so tiny I'll probably lose it in the saucer  :)
