It looks like an attempt to imitate the infamous Pannonian hat VLPP owned by Beast. It looks modern to my eyes though this period is not my speciality.

Martin

Constantine wearing a Pannonian cap.

Here is a link to Beastcoins site regarding this coin:

Interesting.
This doesn't look obviously fake and Beast's coin's authenticity is not disproved yet.

This coin is definitely not an ancient VLPP, as the style is not even close. As Martin said, it is modern-- a clumsy attempt at copying the Pannonian VLPP.

Where did you get it...or make it ?

Well, if Victor says it's fake it must be.

Beast's coin has considerable notoriety.  Not surprising that someone would try and copy it.

I didnt contradict him. I meant I would have been fooled. ;)

I was hoping it would add something to the story of Beast's coin.
But apparently not.

I would imaging that the intention would be to fool as many as possible. The style of obverse and reverse isn't correct and the lettering is wrong in many respects. I have only handle 50 or so VLPP but I have looked at hundreds. This doesn't look like any of them.

Martin

Constantine (in the first coin) looks like he has mouth cancer.  Are you sure the first coin is not cast?

Yes. We found it in the soil before 2 months. The coin isn't look a good because I'm not clean it yet.
However, thanks to all who recalls to this request.   ;)

If you lighten the coin a bit, you can even see where the original line of the top of the head was. Looks to me like someone just added a bit of material and forgot to grind down the cheek  :azn:

Hello folks,

First, thank you to Jeff Clark and Joe Sermarini for sending me a link to this discussion.

To me, from the photo, I can't tell if this is struck or cast, but it certainly looks nothing even close to my coin. The style of the portrait is terrible (too high relief, disproportionate devices), lettering is off (the legend isn't even the same as mine and has different breaks), fields look terrible (badly smoothed with fake surface silvering?) and overall looks like a really amateurish attempt at copying my coin from the image on my site. Not that I didn't expect someone to come up with another example of my coin or at least a copy of it, but I'm surprised it has taken this long for one to turn up and for it to be so far off from mine.

Still, it would be interesting to know who made this one.

The flan cracks seem to indicate that it was struck...

if you look at 3 clock and 9 clock from the obverse you will have the feeling that the coin in qustion is struck not cast copy for sure and as Victor notice the cracks give stronger feeling that it is struck, I am sure we will see more example of this coin Imittating Zach coin.
as Beast said another example like his coin will show up in the market one day(hope by me) but for sure it is not that one  ;D

I don't know where this is for sale but I'm a little confused by the response by nikolay86 to my fake report.  The consensus certainly indicates that it's fake...it indeed looks well off from Beast's coin.

What's confusing about it? He 'found it in the ground'.
Since the consensus (among those that know these coins) is that it is fake
it seems he came here to sell it knowing it was fake.

Hi areich,

That seems likely, but to post a comment on the report stating that 10 people already said it was real, that seems silly.  I especially like the cap on this "version".  It appears to be a top hat instead of a Pannonian cap

The link resulting from a search is not absolute and therefore not the same for everyone. The following link will work however:-

Is it an ancient fake?

A semi modern fake that has been buried?

Modern fake?

Modern buried fake?
