Medieval Hammered Copper Coin
« on: September 03, 2017, 08:28:55 pm »
Hi all,

This time I have a Medieval Hammered that I think its copper.
It has hard green crust...
Need your advice on how to clean it please. Thanks!

Thin and possibly quiet brittle.  Hard to handle.

Personally I would brush with soft brass brush (soft is the key).  See if the green wears down enough to get identifying details.  If that doesn't work I would try gently scraping with a sharp scalpel.

I have had moderate success with some similar sized late-medieval Polish and Hungarian coins that I have found in uncleaned lots.
