New bust type for Alexandreia Troas?
« on: February 10, 2009, 08:07:22 pm »
Hi!

This is an AE25 of Severus Alexander from Alexandreia Troas.
AE 25, 5.19g
obv. IMP SEV AL - EXANDER
Bust, cuirassed, seen from behind, laureate, r.
rev. CO - AL / TROAC
       Horse feeding r., tree behind
ref. Bellinger A341, type 41 (rev.)

Bellinger describes the obv. of A341 as 'bust with spear and shield, l.'. But here the bust is cuirassed and r. The back seems to be decorated by a sun or a gorgoneion. This bust type I can't find on the plates of Bellinger, Troy the Coins.

Anyone who does know this obv. type? Or is it a new one?

Any hint appreciated!

Best regards
