Indeed a very nice addition to your fine collection

I'm really drawn to the large bronze coins. Maybe its because they are easier to see with my aging eyes But I also like the substantial feel of worth they exude! Nice portraits are always attractive to me as well.

While I cannot stand pocket change, it must have felt quite good to have some of these large bronze coins jangling around in one's pocket or leather bag.

Valentinian I RIC IX 26a var. (Thessalonica)

Here's a note from Dane (Helvetica) @ Wildwinds.com:

A rare mule with a Valentinian I obverse and Gratian reverse,
this is the second one I know of. dk

This one turned up in a pile of uncleaned coins (and puts me somewhat at odds with my position regarding purchasing uncleaned coins!)
