Hi,

I have a more or less complete run of Seaby Coin & Medal Bulletin from 1944 through to its eventual demise. Below is an image of the Seaby coin from 1982, described as "scarce, good VF". It proves categorically that your coin is not the Seaby specimen.

Regards,

Mauseus

Thanks for the scan Mauseus.  So at least three examples with ETOYC abbreviated as ET.

I've added a Caracalla denarius from Forvm to replace the fake I had purchased off !$&!bay.  It just arrived today, toning is much nicer in hand.

I don't know why I chose this one, but I really like it!

You chose it be because it speaks to you in a personal way, as you coin choices should. Nice choice and I'm sure much better than your prior fake!  Congrats.

Thanks Carthago.  I've been on the lookout for a replacement for some time and I kept coming back to this one.  Here's a picture of him with his family and friends.

A second coin for my Greek Gallery!  I've always loved this reverse type, finally pulled the trigger on one!  As always, I enjoy hearing your comments.

I am very happy to have added a Domitian Ae 25mm, Sebaste, Samaria with a clear LXF countermark to my gallery.  The host coin itself is in excellent condition considering the countermarked coins are usually quite worn.  Enjoy!

I believe this may be the second published example of the type.

Thanks for all the extra research Curtis, I really appreciate it.  The example I found was ex CNG coin shop, item 733620.

Just added an interesting and more seldom seen Titus "Judaea Capta" type Sestertius. This coin my very well commemorate an unsuccessful ambush by the Jewish rebels.

I missed this post before!

Actually I have another spec of this same coin: similar patina but different dies, I believe.

I will add it soon to my gallery.

Kind regards

Very intriguing sestertius.

Isn't it a little bit enhanced, though? Sorry if I'm wrong.

Kind regards

Alberto

Here are the two coins: the reverse die is certainly different, while the obverse die may be the same.

It does seem like some obverse smoothing but I don't believe any tooling. This coin is Ex Harry N. Sneh Collection and there was no mention of any work done on the coin, not that means anything.

I appreciate any observations in connection with possible (or definite) manipulation of any of the coins in my galley.

Thanks,

Nemo

If you want your coin to go from unique to common, post it on Forvm;D

Great Coin!  Your Titus looks mad and mine looks quite cheerful!

I'm torn about the obverse match. I'll have more time after the weekend to try and figure it out.  Does anyone else have an opinion?

I just added another Titus "Capta"  Sestertius. It's a type I've been looking for for quite a while. The reverse legend is more legible in hand.

PS. Even after spending time on it, I still can't decide if Alberto's VICTORIA AVGVST is an obverse match although I'm leaning toward them not matching. Anyone with a better eye have an opinion? It seems to me the legend wraps further around the portrait than on my example.

I think it's the same obv. die: lots of similarities, no decisive differences.

Thanks Dave and Aarmale, glad you liked them.

Curtis, your opinion and input is appreciated. I tried overlaying them in photoshop to see if they matched but I think I was making it to complicated. Very cool to find a match to a rare variant.
