Golden Horde? Islamic? Help needed
« on: February 28, 2007, 10:40:56 pm »
Hi all -

Just bought this piece... not yet in hand.. It was advertised as an "Interesting Golden Horde" coin.  Can anybody give ANY type of identification on this one?

Hi

This seems to be a Juchid AE Pul from the lower Volga region.
Best would be if you searched here
http://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=2

Best wishes,
Burak

Thanks, Burak!

I have searched Low Volga as you suggested, on ZENO, of which I am a member. I am unable to make a match... but that probably has a lot to do with the fact that I'm too stupid to read the Arabic script! :-[

But to me, the style does indeed suggest Golden Horde origins!  The coins are fascinating from that region... I enjoyed looking at the Zeno pages. I think the reason I bought it was just to have a Mongol Horde coin! :)

The Ottoman coins are much easier for me!

Again, many thanks for your help!

Mernumis --

I uploaded the image to Zeno. The results are:

Jujid AE pul, Qrim, Uzbek khan, 720 AH.
Weight, g: 1.06 Size, mm: 18 Mint: Qrim Date: (72x)AH Denomination: pul Metal: AE
Reference: Lebedev "Coins of Crimea..." coins# ì46, ì47.
(Ëåáåäåâ Â.Ï. "Êàòàëîã ìîíåò Êðûìà â ñîñòàâå Çîëîòîé îðäû", ì46, ì47)

One commentor stated the coins are tentatively dated to 727 AH

Thanks again!
