Help identifying Roman? Tessera

(1/1)

Pedro P:
Hi all,

Recently I acquired the bronze tessera attached in the image. The seller defines it as <<Roman Bronze Friendship Tessera or Seal; ca. 4th century AD; length cm 3,2; With two togate figures clasping hands.>> but I find the description quite ambiguous and without much sense.

When researching online, the only similar item I have been able to find in terms of shape is this one from the Louvre https://archeologie.culture.gouv.fr/palmyre/en/tesserae , but it is still stylistically quite different.

On the back of the tessera it can be read
M P A
D I O R
V M C

I haven't been able to understand the meaning of these initials.

Would you have any suggestions of what could the object be or on the meaning of the initials?

Thank you,

Best regards,

Pedro
