I just got this coin from the Kings of
Paphlagonia, it as a facing
bull on the
obverse and a winged
caduceus on the
reverse. My wife wants a necklace made for it, and she really wants to know the meanings behind the images on the coin. I am assuming that the
caduceus is in homage to
Hermes and the
bull is most likely an homage to
Zeus. But, I am asking the experts here for your opinions on the
bull, in particular. She wants to be able to talk intelligently about the coin if asked. She is a
Taurus, which is one reason she was drawn to it. I am
fine having a necklace made, even though that is not something I would normally do. This coin was not expensive, so that isn't an issue. Anyway, the significance of both the
bull and
caduceus would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Virgil
