Another goodie on gallica - Ravel
« on: March 13, 2023, 08:11:43 pm »
Gallica.fr has uploaded Volume II (only) of Ravel, "Les Poulains de Corinthe" - so part 2 of his catalog of the Pegasus coins of Corinth. This is the work referred to on e.g. the wildwinds Corinth coin pages.

Ravel: Les Poulains de Corinthe Vol. 2 (414-300 BC = Ref nos from no. 341 onwards)

Thank you for sharing! I just bought the one-volume 1979 reprint... Wow, the original plates are SO MUCH better!
Now, if they wouldn't mind doing Calciatti's Pegasi next, I'll be forever happy.

While we're at it, below are three more useful references on Corinthian & Corinthian type Staters from the colonies (two from Ravel).

I noticed that Numiswiki doesn't have their online availability (and Ravel, Hoards doesn't have an entry at all).
EDIT: I've now edited in the links below for Numiswiki entries on Ravel Colts & Cammann, and created a new entry for Ravel Corinthian Hoards (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=Ravel%20Corinthian%20Hoards).

Ah, I was fooled by the title in the list on gallica: This was also listed as Tome II:
Les Poulains de Corinthe , monographie de statères corinthiens, par Oscar E. Ravel. Tome II. De 414 à 300 avant J.-C.
Thanks for unfooling me  :)
