Hadrian diobol forgery
« on: May 14, 2018, 02:53:24 pm »
Dear cf,

Going through my diobol specimens, because of this unusual diobol shown in this topic  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=115446.0

I was unpleasantly surprised by this forgery with I bought in 2015
This forgery has not the typical flan shape and it has file marking and it’s probably made of two coin with each one good side.
i am sending it back and getting refunded

All the Best,
Eric

I think you you absolutely correct--I have seen a lot of joining two coins in old nineteenth century collections.

It cant be fake coin. Clearly there are a traces of bad cleaning. Probably with a toothpick or similar blunt instrument. Moreover got patchy patina because it is tough. You cant imitate such patina because it is tick. Fake patina it is thin. I suppose it hase been socked in some kind of light acid such a vinegar or lemon juice during the process of cleaning. The edge does not prove anything. Im attaching you a picture with similar edge on a coin of mine. You can be sure that it is not fake 1st because im a cleaner next im a treasure hunter and I dont buy or sell coins. Keep it.
And no one would make a fake coin in such a bad condition hehe.

it is a forgery two halves put together

either from 1 or 2 real or fakes or mix
All the Best,
Eric
