Identification Help / Provincial coin - Trophy Victory Athena?
« Last post by Vincent S2 on Today at 05:46:19 am »
Hi everyone,

Here is a bronze coin of 11,78gr and 25mm dia.

Legends are largely invisible and I would need your help to identify it.

I would see Athena seated on a trophy, a victory standing on reverse but not sure at all.

It's provincial because the reverse legends ends with Omega N.

Thanks for any help!

Alamy images shows something very similar, stating that it is Iron Age in date and from Iran.

See-

earthenware, H 12.4-13.3 cm, D 26-27 cm, Iron Age, Iran

Hope this can point you in the right direction.

Coin of the Day / Alexander III Gold Stater COTD
« Last post by gallienus1 on Today at 04:41:48 am »
Looking at kc's post of a star coin in his collection, his magnificent Tiberius aureus, inspired me to post a star coin of my own. Mine is a little more worn than kc's, but still a very lovely thing (I have the photo I took of it as a screen image on my laptop, so I see it every day!). As with most of the coins I post, it was photographed using natural sunlight.

MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.504 grams), Miletus mint, issued 323-319 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand and ship's mast, HK monogram in left field and double headed axe under wing in the right field, around to right ALEXANDP[OU], (cf.S.6702; Price 2114, M.577, BMC 2114a-c).

natomiast na stronach 648 i 651 nie ma nic związanego z tematem

Te strony odnoszą się do samego RIC-a! To jest takie nasze "Patrz niżej strony X i Y"
To wszystko jasne.

Hello Tom Mullally,
Thank you very much, you found the piece !
Why did I think it was suspect ? Well, I just had the case of those two cast hybrid Trajanus/Commodus "coins" from Alexandria last week and this reverse, Athena, I could not find and to tell you frankly I find it kind of odd for Alexanria. Personally, I have some difficulties to search in the RPC's, I could not find the coin at Wildwinds and "Roman coin Alexandria head Athena" gave no results on the www. I thought: this could stink again. But look ... not necessarily. Thanks a lot !

Also all my gratitude to Callimachus to make the pictures so sharp and bright !
I use the pictures my friend sent me, they are on five trays with nine to twelf coins. Not always top clear and often difficult to see the mintmark.
Your intervention is a real improvement. Thanks !

I noticed that the Florian and Coins of the Ladies pages wouldn't download for me. I decided to try them all to see if any others failed as well. Any help would be great, maybe they can be emailed to me?

Byzantine coin type: Large M
Byzantine coin type: All other large letters
Byzantine coins, others
Florian's Antoniniani.
HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS
Coins of the ladies.
SACRA MONETA
TACITUS

Let me know if this is an issue beyond just me. I'd love to get this fixed.
