IMP LICINIVS P F AVG, Laureate and cruirassed bust right
R/ VICTORIA A-ET AVGGG NNN; In ex: MOSTQ; Victory standing right, inscribing VOT/X in two lines on shield set on cippus set on base; right foot on base
Ae Follis - Ostia - 322-323 - 22 x 23 mm - 4.26 g
Not in RIC ; not in Cohen

This coin is the pendant to my Constantine


IMP C CONSTANTINVS P F AVG, Laureate and cruirassed bust right
R/ VICTORIA A-ET AVGGG NNN; In ex: MOSTQ; Victory standing right, inscribing VOT/X in two lines on shield set on cippus set on base; right foot on base

Yes, but what's also interesting is that the Constantine obverse and reverse have same PRD (pearl ring diameter) so must be from the same weight standard, but the Licinius obverse is smaller.

It seems the reverse die, and Constantine obverse die, are from the 1/72lb standard, but the Licinius obverse is from the reduced 1/96lb standard.

This would indeed be very interesting, but judging from the photo may be misleading. Maybe we'd better ask the owner to measure it.

It is difficult to prove, but I personally believe that the reduction of follis was often done smoothly. So 1/72 or 1/96 standards are actually an average over a long period of time.

This case seems to confirm it, as the difference is very small: 0.4 mm. 20.5 mm is too small for "classic" 1/72 standard, and 20.1 mm is too big for 1/96.
