Some examples showing crystallized surface on cast fakes.
« on: May 19, 2023, 06:49:49 am »
The cast fakes were sold on ebay through rommades (already on nfs list) and his new alias io-560.

https://www.coryssa.org/index.php/coins/all/keywords/rommades/search2/yes/date_to/2023-05-09/use_checkboxes/0/period/all/search_seller/on

He is selling only cast fakes and keeping the authentic mothers.

The surface is varying, some twins have many pearls and defects others not.
Some twins have this crystallized surface, tohers not.
Some twins have edge chips others not!
Some twins have this dark oxidation layers others not.

It would be interesting to know if crystallisation pattern on cast silver fakes will differ to the crytallistion pattern of ancient silver coins which crystallized over a long period of time.

Warning many pictures ^^

First post edge chip on the first twin, the other ones do not have edge chip.

Last post, I have found the authentic mother sold on ebay by another seller of this Otho cast fakes.
4 Pictures are from the mother and you can guess which one (planchet break runs through the whole coin, so the coin had been most likely bronken and glued together again).

Thanks Din. Your material is obviously worth a thorough study, as always. And these big pictures are very helpful.
