« on: May 22, 2016, 05:11:55 am »
I have updated the picture after I found new die links.
3 obverse dies were combined with 4 different reverse dies.

Another one with the fantasy lambda reverse

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos (305-281 BC). Drachm. Uncertain mint in Asia Minor.
Obv: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin.
Rev: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ.
Zeus seated left with sceptre and eagle. Control: Λ.
Thompson -; Müller -; Meydancikkale -; unpublished in the standard references.

The problem is that the style on the reverse is much cruder than on authentic coins, impossible die links Kolophon to Lampsakos, that they were so far unpublished, that some of the reverse dies are completely new variants (fantasies), there are too many die links 4 reverse dies and 4 obverse dies that are linked and combined together, which is too much !

Some of them are clearly pressed from modern dies.
Some of them could be cast fakes made from pressed fakes from modern dies.
But I were not able to find a host or twins so far which speaks against cast fakes.

These fakes are linked to other Salvey fakes.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-4476

They exaggerated the die mixing ;)

Same fantasy reverse die with delta, but most of the reverse dies are fantasy

Got some of these Tourist fakes very cheap so I bought them and ordered some more.
It is possible that some of the obverses are copied from authentic coins but then recut.
At least some of the obverse and reverse dies are completey modern hand cut.

11 obverse dies were combined with only 7 reverse dies.
They have same style and fabric and so come most likely from same artist and workshop but the coins come from many different mints and different emperors and times and were mainly sold by fake sellers, this all speaks for their authenticity.

Many new ones so far unpublished ones appeared on ebay recently some are die linked to these fakes others are not die linked but have same fabric and style and were for sale or sold by same seller who has die linked fakes sold or for sale.

I bought recently some of these fakes as replicas as I have posted above already (picture 2+3)

The 2 die linked fakes (both top coins on mreged picture 1

other pictures 2-4 show coins from same seller with same fabric and stlye but not die linked

I could not find die matches or links to authentic coins and not even authentic ancient coins from this mints or emperors with this style and coins from this dies are only know since some years.

An update, it seems like that a very small number of these are recut transfer dies which were really MASSIV recut and then combined with modern hand cut dies.
For one of these fakes they were using a marked Replica from Greece to produce transfer dies.
The replica symbol is a letter M with a line on it!
And of course these recut transfer dies have been later combined with all other existing modern hand cut dies and massiv recut transfer dies.
And then they used this obverse die without recuting (except dots of dotted border) for one transfer die and a recut version of this die for another transfer die.
The reverse, has been massiv recut, the only thing they forgot to recut was the M with line replica symbol on the reverse.
My replica has been mounted in jewellry, this is why mine has on oberse this cycle.

All fakes I have from this emissions.
They sadly appear pretty often in auctions from auction houses as authentic!
Their soapy and sometimes extremly soapy apperance can have something to do with production.
I assume that they were casting the modern and recut transfer dies resulting in this soapyness.
