Alex. III Tetradrachm
« on: December 22, 2006, 06:35:30 pm »
Hello,

who can identify the mint of this tetradrachm? I browsed wildwinds´opulent macedon-Alexander-III page but found no similar coin with this symbol (a flower ??).

Macedonian Kingdom, Alexander III
AR Tetradrachm, uncertain mint, (27-28 mm / 17.01 g),  ? BC.,
Obv.: Head of Herakles right, in lionskin.
Rev.: BAΣIΛEΩΣ / AΛEΞANΔPOY , Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle on extended right hand and scepter in left, ANT.. monogram below throne, unclear symbol in left field.

Regards

Yes a Nike from Tarsos mint - you got it ! Thanks!
Is it authentic from what you see?

Unfortunately, I am the last person to ask about authenticity. It looks good to me, but I will leave it to the pros.

However everything else matches Tarsos.

I got the Nike because I own a Sicilian Tet with a Nike, so I have seen thousands of them.

Ditto, but it looks alive, not just lively, and real to me, too.  Pat L.
