What does "S left, F right" stand for?
« on: February 08, 2017, 03:37:45 pm »
Hi all!

I have a proboably quite common coin; Constantinus I Follis, Arelate mint (RIC VII 321).

I would like to know what the left S and the right F mean. Stands S for the officina? What does F stand for?
What does the S before CONST stand for?

Thank you for any information

Helmut

My understanding is that it isn't known for sure but the best guess is Saeculi Felicitas (happy days or age of good fortune)

S before CONST stands for secunda (officina) = 2nd officina of Arelate.

Best regards
