How did I miss your Birthday? Shame on me :(

LRB's lie beyond my current area of interest, except for those with nice desert patina and detailed intricate designs. Oh looky there, your's seem to have those properties, what a coinsidece ;D

I particularly like the bull emerging from the dust cloud, gazing at the stars! Very nice!

Hey Steve!

Thank you!

The Jovian didn't photograph nearly as nice as it looks in-hand.

However, I'm very satisfied with how the other two came out.

The Theo I, in particular, I am very happy with. A very large coin for the era.

Hello All!

I was originally going in a completely different direction, but I have to say that I'm not unhappy with where I ended up :)

Forthwith, here are the latest additions to my humble gallery:

Leo I AV Tremissis
RIC X 611, Depeyrot 93/3 Constantinople
15 mm, 1.46 g, 6h
Scarce

Zeno AV Tremissis
RIC X 914, Depeyrot 108/4 Constantinople
14 mm, 1.42 g, 6h

Your comments and ratings over at the gallery page are appreciated!

Regards,
Mark Z.

Happy Sunday to All!

It's been a great weekend:

2) Saturday was my son's 19th birthday.

3) This little gem arrived late Saturday (courtesy Joe and FORVM):

Theodosius AV Tremissis

Hello All!

First, I wanted to thank all of you for your comments on my recently uploaded coins.

I didn't post them all here as there were so many uploaded all at once.

I did want to showcase this particular coin, my latest acquisition:

Valentinian III Solidus
RIC X 2010

Follow the link:

Hello All!

Here's another little gem I just received in the mail today:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-72251

It's unfortunate that the pics tend to pick up that which you don't see when you're holding something like this in your hand.

Then again, maybe I shouldn't have sharpened up the pic so much!

Still, it's very pretty in hand and a welcome addition to my collection.

Your comments and ratings are welcome :)

Regards,
mz

Hello All!

Just added this nice little coin to my collection:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-73348

Honorius AV Solidus

A little banged up on the reverse but with a very nice portrait.

Lars from R&W tells me that this coin is from an old Dutch collection and is most likely a single coin find in the Netherlands!

Your comments and ratings are appreciated!

Hello All!

I've been keeping an eye out for a nice-looking coin of Tacitus and here it is:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-73483

It fulfilled all of my requirements:

1) mostly silvered (>95%)
2) large (23+ mm)
3) nice portrait (I think this one is very nice!)

Thanks for your past and future comments and ratings!

Regards,
mz

p.s. this one was very hard to photograph. I must've taken 15 pics total to get the luster just right.

Hello All!

It's been a while (3 months, to be exact!) since I've posted one of my little treasures here.

I'm proud to say that this dupondius of Domitian is now a part of my humble collection:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-77570

The patina is hard and shiny, and the brassy highlights set off the portrait beautifully.

Your comments and ratings are, as always, much appreciated! Thanks!

Hello All!

Thanks to all who looked in on my recent addition!

Here's another great coin that just arrived today:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-77972

Severus II
RIC VI 660 Trier
26 mm x 28 mm, 10.51 gm
F L VAL SEVERVS NOB CAES, laureate & cuirassed bust right
GENIO POPVLI ROMANI S-F, Genius standing left, wearing modius & holding patera & cornucopiae,
PTR in ex.
Scarce

There is a thin wash of silvering that really picks up the light nicely in hand.

Thanks for looking in, and for your votes and comments :)

Regards,
mz

Mark, your coins never fail to impress.  At the risk of sounding rather ‘corny’, your collection has been an inspiration.  Thanks very much for sharing.

Hello All!

It's a couple of days early but I wanted to present to you my birthday gift to myself for this year:

Claudius AE As:

RIC 100, Cohen 83, BMC 149
12.04 g, 29 mm
TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR IMP, bare head left
S-C across field, Minerva standing right, brandishing spear and holding shield on left arm
Ex: HD Rauch Auction 87 Lot 353 (08-12-10)

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-82631

Yes, I did have another of this type in my gallery but as you can see the quality of this one is much better.

The reverse, in particular, is beautifully preserved.

Please have a look! Your comments and ratings are, as always, much appreciated!

Hi Mark
Lovely Claudius. Be careful with this "birthday gift for myself" : it is very easy to decide that everyday is a birthday ........

Hello Friends!

As promised, here is my latest acquisition, a birthday present from my wife to me and courtesy of the boss, Joe S. and FORVM:

Gallienus antoninianus:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-83582

As you may (or may not) know, I am a big fan of "big bronze." However, I am also attracted to rare coins or rare variants.

This coin is from the Antioch Hoard of Gallienus.

This variety is not listed in RIC without a branch or SPQR in exergue.

It is one of only two cited in MIR, the other having apparently been sold in a mail bid some 20 years ago by Mr. Alex Malloy.

I could not find any evidence of other examples using Coinarchives.com, acsearch.info or Wildwinds.com

If you know of any, I'd be happy to incorporate that information.

Also, it might be added, it's a very nice coin just based on it own merits, being rated as "Choice EF" by the FORVM staff.

Your ratings and comments are much appreciated!

Regards,
mz
