CPK Collection additions
« on: March 22, 2024, 08:32:48 am »
I just added a new coin to the gallery:

THRACE, Hadrianopolis. Gordian III AE (Ostrich, RPC Online, Vol. VII.2, No. 806 - 12th specimen this coin)

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186418

This is a type I've been wanting for a while now. It's already rather scarce, and being a popular type means it's even more rare on the market. Good examples don't stick around long!
This one is far from perfect but it's got a full ostrich and a great bust, plus a really attractive vivid green patina. I'm happy to add it to my collection of African animals!

Thanks for looking!

I added a couple more coins to my collection gallery:)

Vespasian denarius, rare PONTIF MAXIM/caduceus type with a great portrait (updated photos):

And one of my favorite non-ancient coins, a 1745 George II 'LIMA' shilling:

CPK,

What an incredible provenance, and to still have the hand written labels is amazing. Great catches!

Thank you! I know, it's such a fascinating provenance history I couldn't resist the opportunity to purchase, even though the coins themselves are nothing special. Having his own handwritten labels along with the coins is just so cool. I found that hard plastic screw-type sports card holders work perfectly for storing the labels, which are fairly fragile and prone to tearing after being folded up for nearly 200 years.

Couple more uploaded!

Geta denarius, struck as Augustus, with a fantastic mature portrait:

GOLD!  ;D Justinian I solidus - nothing special, but it's my only ancient gold coin:

I just finished uploading several more coins, all Roman Imperial bronzes:

Vespasian as, very scarce left-facing portrait variation:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186494

Trajan as, scarce and interesting type with shield and weapons:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186496

A very rare as of Gordian III with an interesting reverse scene:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186497

And a classic, a big beefy sestertius of Nero, Temple of Janus reverse:

Thanks for looking! And thanks for all of your previous comments and compliments, by the way - I appreciate it!  :)

I pretty much finished uploading the rest of my Greek collection this evening! We've got everything from mid-5th century silver to late Hellenistic bronze - including some rarities and an ex-BCD Collection hemidrachm.

Thessaly, Trikka hemidrachm - ex BCD Collection:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186522

The obligatory Alexander the Great lifetime drachm. Every collection needs one!
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186524

An impressively thick and chunky silver coin (stater or double-shekel) struck under Alexander's satraps in Babylon:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186520

A nice portrait bronze coin of Pompey the Great, struck after 66 BC:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186521

And just so the Romans don't feel too left out, I also upgraded the photos for my Roman Imperial Claudius as (LIBERTAS AVGVSTA). One of my collection favorites, with a 45-year provenance:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186519

I've still got quite a few coins to upload so stay tuned!  ;) Thanks for looking!

Just finished uploading a few Roman Republic/Imperatorial coins:

L. Cupiennius denarius:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186771

A ragged but respectable portrait denarius of Pompey the Great, struck by his son Sextus:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186775

And posted elsewhere, but why not mention it here too  ;) - a Julius Caesar lifetime portrait denarius, which also happens to be a somewhat rare reverse type:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186776

Thanks for your interest and your comments!

Here are a few new Gallery uploads. Thanks for viewing!  :)

Vespasian denarius, good portrait, ex Kenneth Bressett & ex Bill Higgie:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186918

Hadrian as, interesting modius reverse, very pleasantly worn coin - imagine the hands this coin passed through over the years!
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=186919

A really extraordinary Tetrarchic follis of Contantius I from Alexandria:

A couple coins added tonight:

AE3 of Fausta, wife of Constantine the Great. In addition to featuring a nice portrait, I found out after I bought it that the coin carries a provenance to the Giovanni Dattari Collection (1853-1923):
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=187003

And the other half of that royal couple - an interesting "throwback" issue of Constantine with a particularly sharp reverse:

I've finished uploading a few more coins to my collection gallery - an attractive Trajan bronze and a couple R3 first-century denarii:

Trajan as with a reverse depiction of Trajan on horseback, spearing a fallen enemy:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=187050

Domitian denarius, an extremely rare early 'PONT' type, apparently one of four known:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=187051

Galba denarius with an extremely rare left-facing portrait, Virtus reverse:

Thanks for your interest and comments!
