Latin Trachy type IV?
« on: February 02, 2016, 11:59:35 pm »
Military saint holding Labarum in right hand, anexikakia in right, Top coin is the one I have a question about.

the lower coin is what I understand is a Typer IV/Jord XXVI 7, which is a reference I do not have,

are these the same coin you think?

here is a link to the second coin, better photograph

The emperor is seated on a backless throne and holds a lab. sc, so it's probably a Latin Type C (not S.2302 of Michael VIII, which is rather different in detail).
The Latin Type IV by the way is C.L.B.C. 11.31, and also Lianta 103-6.

Yes, on this type the emperor often looks like he's standing but he's meant to be seated.
You see the same effect on the Christ "seated" obverse on the common groshen of Ivan Alexander & Michael Asen.
