Title: Bulgarian imitation?
Post by: Jochen on November 02, 2018, 10:17:15 am
Hi!

This coin is offered in the web. I think it has a "Bulgarian touch" and consider it an Imitation..

What do you think?

An official coin, I think. Apparently same dies as Varbanov 3208, who wrongly gives obv. legend code H when it should be G. Another, finer, specimen of the same coin from the same dies is in my collection.

Is this the same coin?

From an 2015 auction with a pedigree from an 2012 auction, listed by acsearch

If not, at least one of them is a cast fake.

Thank you for your answers! And thanks, Pekka, for the hint to my own coin! I haven't mentioned it.

Now we have a set of 3 coins which seem to be identical:

(1) Coin from Ebay today. Now I have used the original photos.
(2) Coin from acsearch, sold April 2015.
(3) Coin from my Collection, bought February 2014.

I think it is impossible that all 3 are authentic.

And the seller of the ebay example  "getod_4" is in the notorious fake sellers list.

I think it is impossible that all 3 are authentic.

Of course at least two of the identical coins must be casts, probably all three. But these are not "Bulgarian imitations", which implies not modern casts, but modern dies manufactured recently in Bulgaria.

The dies of the original coin from which the casts were made were authentic, as shown by other clearly authentic specimens from the same dies, Varbanov's, mine, and doubtless others.
