----------------------------------------------------------------------------
sum                                  1830  1984 2210

10 coins from Nikopolis Addenda II haven't found their way into the new catalog:
#51 Caracalla, #52 Macrinus, #96 Gordian III, #101 Severus, #112 Caracalla, #163 Severus, #198 Severus, #262 Severus, #271 Caracalla, #311 Commodus. These coins were too worn so that a pic would have been not informative enough.

But this is not the end of the story. The chase for new types goes on!

A new die combination

Elagabal, AD 218-222
AE 27, 11.28g, 27.18mm, 0°
struck under Novius Rufus
obv. [AVT KM AVR] - ANTWNEINOC
Bust, draped and cuirassed, seen from behind, laureate, r.
rev. VP NOBIOV ROVFOV NIK - OPOLITWN PROC ICT / RW (last OV of ROVFOV ligate)
Tyche, diademed, in long garment and mantle, stg. l., holding in l. arm cornucopiae and in
      extended r. hand rudder
ref. a) not in AMNG
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.):
          cf. #3953 (different obv.)
      c) not in Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2013)
rev. No. 8.26.38.12 corr. (writes PROC I / RW)
obv. e.g. No. 8.26.38.7 corr. (same die, writes AV KM AVR)
      unpublished?
coll. Hoeft

This kind of ligation is rare for Elagabal. Varbanov always writes 8 for it.

A rev. variant

Septimius Severus, AD 193-211
AE 18, 2.98g, 17.89mm, 210°
obv. [AV KAI] CE - CEVHR[OC]
       laureate head r.
rev. NIKO[POL]ITWN PROC I - C.
      Laurel wreath, dot in center
ref. a) AMNG I/1, 1446 var. (has only PROC I)
      b) Varbanov (engl.) 2484 var.
      c) Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2013) No. 8.14.54.14 var. (has only PROC I)
coll. Hoeft

It is well possible, that it is PROC I - C. at all, but overlooked. In this case it would be a correction.

A correction

Septimius Severus, AD 193-211
AE 16, 3.26g, 16.27mm, 180°
obv. AV KEC - CEHROC
Bust, draped and cuirassed, laureate, r.
rev. NIKOPOLITWN PROC ICTR. (TR smaller)
Crescent with 8-pointed star in the cavity, dots around
ref. a) not in AMNG
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2013) No. 8.14.48.7 corr. (writes AV K CE)
coll. Hoeft

The legend AV KEC is known from coins of Caracalla. Pick writes: "KEC naturally means KAIC.". But Severus was Augustus! Kurt E. thinks AV K CE was intended, but after CEHROC it could be a 2nd error of the die cutter.

#16, a doubtful coin!

A new die combination and a rev. variant

Caracalla, AD 198-217
AE 19, 4.0g, 16-19mm
obv. [AV] K M AV - ANTONIN
Bust, draped and cuirassed, seen from behind, laureate, r.
rev. NIKOPOLITON PROC ICT
large 8-pointed star with dot in centre and at the points
ref. a) not in AMNG
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) not in Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2013)
rev. 8.18.48.22 var. (has PROC IC.)
          obv. e.g. 8.18.47.16 (tripod)
Bulgarian coll.

Instead of W in ANTWNIN and in POLITWN we see an O. This and the style show that this coin is at least doubtful.

Your opinions appreciated!

#17, a doubtful coin!

A modern forgery?

Septimius Severus, AD 193-211
AE 18, 2.85g, 18.36mm, 210°
obv. AV K L - CEVHROC
       laureate head r.
rev. NIKOPOLI - PROC ICTW
Homonoia in long garment and mantle, wearing kalathos, stg. l., holding in l. arm
cornucopiae and in extended hand patera
ref. a) AMNG I/1, 1397 var. (different obv. legend)
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) not in Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2013):
rev. No. 8.14.36.17 var. (has ICTR)
          obv. e.g. No. 8.14.38.19
coll. Hoeft.

The style makes this a very doubtful coin.

#21, a doubtful coin

A completely new type

Caracalla as Caesar, AD 195-198
AE 17(?)
obv. [M AV K] - ANTWNIN - OC
        bare head r.
rev. NIKOPOLIT - PROC ICTR
Priapos, nude except chlamys over l. shoulder, stg. l., shows his enormous phallos
ref. a) not in AMNG
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) not in Hristova-Hoeft-Jekov (2013):
rev. no Priapos listed for Caracalla
          obv. e.g. 8.18.27.1
Bulgarian coll.

I think that the rev. was recut from a coin with Hermes reverse. The attitude is typically for Hermes, not Priapos. So the chlamys too. The large gap between head and PROC is probably caused by the formerly kerykeion and the end of the phallos is recut from the purse.
