After tooling coins need to be artificially patinated to hide the traces. Of course with most tooling this is not enough and it is still obvious.

The patina is definitely not original.

So for someone to tool a coin, the original coin mustn't have been worth much? It seems idiotic to take a $500 coin and give it a bit more detail to try and sell it for $1000--yet ruin the credibility and actual value of the coin. It seems like a total crime to me, can't believe it happens.

Mario,

I guess I should have phrased my question a little better.

I meant to ask if you had decided to hang on to it or return it.

It would be interesting to see the rubbed off area of the patina if you still have the coin and the packaging.

mz

Here is a recent picture for the coin with the patina rubbed off of the head.

Mario (and everyone else),

Check this out:

Here's a coin that he previously sold within the last month (or another of the same) that is currently listed on fleabay.

The only real difference is the color of the patina but the coin is exactly the same.

However, this time he has the invoice listed, as well.

mz

p.s. to Mario: well done on the feedback

The change in color may just be due to lighting.

Joe,

Yes, you are correct. I was just checking page 1 of this thread and it's there.

He got $611 the first time around. There is no feedback for the previous transaction so I wonder if it was returned to him or if the sale was never consummated?
