Tits, IVD CAP sestertius - pls help to ID
« on: October 05, 2013, 11:07:57 am »
Hello everyone!
I acquried a Roman AE coin (24.93 g; diam. 28 mm ), image of which I uploaded to Zeno.ry database:

As I am specializing in early Islamic coins, I have difficutlies with a proper attribution of Roman coins.  May I kindly ask to confirm /correct  my attribution, which was:

  OBV: Titus, AE sestertius, IMP T CAES DIVI F VESP AVG P M TR [P P P COSV]III.
Laureate head right.
REv:
IVD CAP   =Judea captured
Jewish female seated left, below palm tree, captive Jew at right, facing left, head turned, S C at sides. Hendin 792var.; RIC new 500. RPC II 503

Mint of Perinthos , Thrace

Many thanks in advance for your comments.

Ev.

Very nice example for this rare coin, I'd love to have it in my collection.

I think you have properly attributed it.

Congrats!

I think the reverse figures have suffered tooling.

Unlike many other Capta-Sestertii, this one looks fine and untooled to me.
