Try to read the legends and to identify the reverse figure. On the reverse, the number of TR P's and IMP's is stated - that will lead you to the correct year.

Lars

PS: certainly authentic

Authentification? I cannot tell for sure but those edges make it look like it has a copper core with a silver coating, does it?

Fouree or not, the coin is still surely authentic.

sorry for the delay

looking at it under 10x resolution,  it's silver in color as far as I can tell,  but I'm no expert so I don't know if it's a fouree or not, but there is definately no copper at the chips..

could it have been the light from the scanner ?

ok,  here goes on the attribution

Marcus Aurelius Denarius.

obverse: IMP M AVREL ANTONVS AVG, bare head right /

reverse : PROV DEOR TR P vII COS II, Providentia standing left holding globe & cornucopia.

and if I read different sites correctly ,  it's a rome mint

how close am I ?

also  I'm not sure what you mean by

"number of TR P's and IMP's is stated - that will lead you to the correct year"

do you mean the letters following the tr p  in the legend??  in this case would it be VII   wich = 7 ???

or am I wayyyy off  lol

Marcus Aurelius renewed his Tribunicial Power (TR P) each year on December 10th, the first renewal being TR P II in 147. His title TR P VII was therefore from December 10th 152 to December 10th 153.

I think you may have the emperor wrong.  It looks to me like Commodus in 181:

M COMMODVS - ANTONINVS AVG, Head laureate r.

LIB [AVG I]III TR P VI IMP IIII COS III P P, Liberalitas standing, holding coin counter and cornucopia.

so that I understand the legend on the REV
Commodvs was given the status of imporator by Markus Aurelius in 176 AD(IMP IIII )= 180 AD

Commodvs was given tribunician power. On January 1, 177  ( TR P VI )=183 AD

and was appointed in in the middle of 177 the title Augustus ( AVG IIII) =181 AD

so The coin depicts the exploits of his life and tell us that is was minted in 183 AD  (The last known date )

also because he shared rule with markus aurelius, and knowing he died in 180 AD we know that Markus aurelius was already dead when this coin was minted  or the AVG  on the coin would have read AVGG

did I get it  ???

I think the legends are as I stated above:

M COMMODVS - ANTONINVS AVG, Head laureate r.

LIB [AVG I]III TR P VI IMP IIII COS III P P, Liberalitas standing, holding coin counter and cornucopia.

BMC 53, Cohen 307, RIC 22.

Date 1 Jan.-9 Dec. 181.  Commodus' TR P VI corresponds to 10 Dec. 180-9 Dec. 181, but he didn't assume his third consulship (COS III) until 1 Jan. 181.

The rev. type commemorates his fourth distribution of money to the people of Rome, Liberalitas Augusti IIII.
