Greek AR with thunderbolt reverse
« on: March 20, 2023, 11:34:16 am »

AR  approx. 7.00 gr.

A friend has sent this picture and asked for help identifying it.
He said the coin had a lead patina on it and it got to this point after cleaning it.

Obv: Laureate head of Zeus right.
Rev: ?  :Greek_Lambda:  :Greek_Alpha:  ?   :Greek_Kappa:  :Greek_epsilon:   :Greek_Omega:  :Greek_Nu:, thunderbolt and monogram above, monogram below within circle.

Help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Is your friend sure about the silver? It looks similar to this bronze:

... Is your friend sure about the silver? ...
And what should be a "lead patina"?

This type only exists in bronze, so I agree with shanxi. Another reference for this type  is WSM 894 (Western Seleucid Mints by Edward T. Newell).

I suspect a cast fake.

What else would cause those veins if not poorly executed casting?
