ID Help Please Vespanian AE 9.84g 23mm
« on: March 03, 2023, 06:22:36 pm »
Hello, all!

I have a very worn coin that I was hoping one of you pros would recognize.

AE 9.84g 23mm

I can make out IMP CAESAR VESPASIAN COS*, but that's about it.

Thank you for your time and expertise.

Tough one without the consulship ending.  Reverse could be Spes.  What helps you is that the legend starts from the low right outward rather than low left inward.  That can help narrow it down.  Maybe this?

Yes, it seems likely that you are correct. Even with a worn reverse a person can usually at least see something of where the legend was even if it can’t be made out. This example seems uniformly flat.

Thank you for your expertise, Jay.
