Horse and rider
(1/1)
Digger:
I was wondering about the age and distribution of type
any help would be good, as I need it for the description label , thanks
SC:
Roman enameled zoomorphic plate fibula - horse and rider type.
Enameled zoomorphic fibula generally date to circa 150-200 AD.
The horse type appeared slightly earlier as an un-enameled type in the Balkans. But the type spread and the horse and rider version has been found throughout the Roman Empire from Britain to the Balkans. Not sure if they are found in the middle east too.
Hard to narrow this one down without finding an exact parallel in the archaeological literature.
The large head of the horse is interesting and distinguishes this from most others I have seen.
