sorry for the squirrel remark, but that 19th century tag is almost as interesting to me as the coin - anything on the reverse of it?

It is not a Paduan in its real meaning as no dies/medals from Giovanni da Cavino are known for this type (according to Zander Klawans´ book "Imitations and Inventions of Roman Coins" and to the catalogue of the collection of the HIstorical Museum Basel).
It might be just a cast copy of a sestertius. If you look at the photo which shows the rim of the coin you see that the two sides/faces of the coin are parallelly to each other which is typical for a cast.
If it´s struck and you rotate the coin and look at the rim you should see from at least one perspective an inclination in the orientation of the two faces to each other.

It does not look cast to me, not with that flan crack.

Joe,
Thanks for the response, I have a bunch of people telling me its cast but like you I am not sure it is, and it has an old ticket with it, do you think its legitimate. It came in with some other coins and not sure if you looked at the Vespasian I posted but that one might be a cast nut not sure either

thanks Adrian

Who is telling you it's cast?  I don't see any replies to that effect here.  The images are not the same as having the coin in hand, but to my eyes, I don't think it's cast - as Joe points out, the flan crack would not be as sharply defined on a casting.

That seems to be a closed crack.  Are we sure it is a real crack rather than the impression of one?  Perhaps a image of the edge might answer that.  I admit I am hyper-suspicious, but that coin just does not give me a good feeling.  The patina looks artificial and so much like the other coins in this group that it increases my doubts.

Its a legit crack, I am sending it off and another to Sear see what he says then I can put this to bed once and for all, the tage suggests its been in a collection since somewhere in the 19th century as its quite old one
