Antoninius Pius Dupondius w Annona, Any Reference?
« on: November 02, 2015, 12:32:36 pm »
ObverseANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P XII, Radiate head of Antoninus right.
ReverseANNONA AVG S C, Annona standing left holding anchor and grain ears over modius, COS IIII in exergue.

Cant seem to find a reference for it.  RIC847, but with XI on obverse.  RIC854 bust a sestertius.  Must be in one of those obscure works.  I checked all the databases and my books but didnt see it.   Anyone know a reference for it?

BMC 1830, pl. 45.3 (rev. only); Paul Tinchant Gift, 1936.

Not in RIC III, since the original edition of that work was published in 1930, six years before the BM acquired its specimen.

Can you show us a picture of your coin, with size, weight, die axis?

Curtis,

Let me see what I can do as a quick photo.  Damned thing is slabbed, but I will do the best!

Curtis,

Photo attached.  Pretty crappy, but the plastic slab makes a lot of glare (I really hate them, but well, I just leave them alone when they come my way).  As is is slabbed, no weight, but it is approx. 26mm and just slightly less than 12h axis.

Thanks for the picture.

Three further specimens are recorded by Strack 1020: in Vienna, Vatican, and Naples.
