Ave!
Excellent post from Joe and very cool links.
Here's mine - copper
alloy; 60mm x 61mm/40gm.
Ground-found in a
field near the
Roman city of Mursa in Croatia, located on the Drava River only a few miles from the confluence of the Danube River. Mursa was an important riverine base for
Roman patrol
ships which guarded the
banks, not only looking for any invaders, but to also ensure that trading boats
had a safe journey. Possibly from a
Roman marine?
The inscriptions on each
side do NOT photo well, but when held into the light at the correct angle are more readily seen.
The front has four sort of legible lines, and the
reverse has five lines.
This fragment arrived months ago and like Joe our host here on
Forum, I was and
still am, not sure what to do with it.
So far, I have only and gently, addressed the inscriptions, and nothing else. I have tried to trace them on paper and make impressions, but no go as they are too faint.
Any suggestions as how to make them clearer will be highly appreciated!
Best regards to all,
Kevin
