Gil-galad's Coin Gallery- Lots of new coins
« on: December 17, 2014, 01:24:39 am »
I just started moving my coins over from one gallery to this one. I have a lot more coins to post but I figured I'd announce it today. Some are photos I snapped myself, some are dealer photos of the coin I purchased. I have mini write ups for each section that I had on my other gallery. I hope you enjoy my low grade collection.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I've been adding more coins, about 1-10 a day since I started this gallery. After I get all the coins that have decent photos, I'm going to be shooting a few more and then adding. I'm very new to using this camera, and also very slow so coins are going to be added a little slower.

I have been updating my gallery off and on for months but haven't really posted about it in quite awhile. I had no clue that you guys were doing featured galleries. That's a great idea for sure. Congrats to the winners and runner-ups.

I haven't posted to my gallery page in about a year so I figure I better do it today. I have added quite a few for 2017 but not as many as I would have liked. Here are some links so you don't have to go to the first page.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/index.php?cat=31399

I also have a new website with off and on updates when I feel like working on it, but is very much incomplete and in progress.

I've been on a coin dry spell for sometime. The interest is there, but no cash, unfortunately.  :(

These are the few coins I've obtained since January of this year. The first coin is a Islamic fish coin that was also a test for my Arabic visual keyboard and it seems to work well, but has a few problems to work out.

Islamic Empire, Umayyad, Palestine, Anonymous (738+ AD, 120+ AH), AE Fals, Baysan mint

Obverse: محمد رسول الله , Arabic text surrounding fish pointing left, within looped square, all within linear circle border. "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."

Reverse: لا إله إلا الله وحده , Arabic text on three lines, within looped square, all within linear circle border. "There is no God but Allah alone."

Reference: Album 165, SNAT 4a #274-276

Ex: Charachmoba Gym

Ancient Greek, Nabataean Kingdom, Arabia, Aretas II-III (c. 120+ BC), AE18, Damascus mint, 18mm, 4.1g

Obverse: No legend, Corinthian helmeted head of Athena right.

Reverse: No legend, Nike standing left holding wreath, crescent over Λ field mark left.

Reference: Meshorer 1

Ex: Charachmoba Gym

Roman Imperial, Constans (347-348 AD) AE3, Siscia mint

Obverse: CONSTANS P F AVG, Rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right.

Reverse: VICTORIAE DD AVGGQ NN, two Victories standing facing each other, each holding wreath and palm, HR monogram between. Mintmark ΓSIS.

Reference: RIC VIII Siscia 192 var

Ex: From cleaner lot, Serbia

Roman Imperial, Gratian (367-375 AD) AE3, Siscia mint

Obverse: DN GRATIANVS PF AVG, Pearl-diademed draped and cuirassed bust right.

Reverse: GLORIA RO-MANORVM, Emperor walking right, head left, holding labarum and dragging captive. R over symbol R+symbol to right. F in left field. Mintmark: ΔSISA

Reference: RIC IX Siscia 14c Type XXV

Ex: From cleaner lot, Serbia.

Ancient Greek, Alexander Jannaeus, Hasmonean AE Prutah, (103-76 BC)

Obverse: "Yehonatan the High Priest & the Council of the Jews", Five lines of Hebrew text within wreath, top line off flan.

𐤉𐤄‬𐤅
𐤍𐤕𐤍𐤄‬𐤊‬
𐤄‬𐤍𐤄‬𐤂𐤃‬𐤋
𐤉𐤇‬𐤁‬𐤓𐤄‬
𐤅𐤄‬𐤃‬𐤃‬𐤌

Reverse: Two joined cornucopias, ribbons on each side, pomegranate between, all within dotted circle border.

Reference: Hendin 1145 (473)

Ex: Tom Mullally

I've edited most of these in my Judaean folder. The Widow's Mite is too low grade and there is too much variety to guess at the letters on the coin.

Damn, I didn't know it was you, my friend. Plenty of Steve's around but I only know one Stevex6. lol

That coin is not a new addition but rather a re-attribute because I made a keyboard for Phoenician and I have legend now just like I do for my Roman Imperial coins.
