New Coins
« on: October 26, 2012, 09:45:59 pm »
I picked up a few great additions to my small collection this week at a local coin show, including my first owl!  I also found a reasonably-priced Titus, and a great looking Thrax denarius.  Check out my gallery below if you feel so inclined (and if you would honor me so).  I'm still coming down off of the high from acquiring so many new coins so quickly...

Five years later and I'm back from another coin show.  Like five years ago, I picked up another owl with test cuts.  I also grabbed a Tiberius denarius and an Aelius denarius.  I ended up spending a bit more than I anticipated, and it was probably because I've been out of the game for a few years and needed to satisfy a long unscratched itch.  I'll link to my gallery below, if any of you are interested.  Cheers!

Very nice coins, and 2 ex BCD.

I don't mind test cuts on Owls. I have quite a number with test cuts - I think it adds character.

Agreed.  If anything, it dramatically enhances the sense that these objects were handled thousands of years ago.   It's one thing to see the high relief portions of portraits worn down by being handled, but it is another to see a crisp slice right down the middle of the reverse.  I really do like it.

And that this addition of historical connection also often reduces the price of the coin...what more can one ask for?

Seems like every handful of years something ends up reigniting my desire to collect and I dabble for a few months.  Now is that time, hehe.  I've aquired a dozen or so new pieces in the last few months (with a few more in the mail) and I'm in the process of adding them to my Fourm galleryPart of the fun of coming back is going to everyone' else's galleries and checking out all of their new acquisitions 😁

I'm happiest about the Otho denarius.  Never thought I'd own one 😁

Hi again!

I'm in the process of uploading pick-ups from the second half of the year.  Grabbed some new versions of coins already in my collection because I find comparing them to be quite enjoyable.

Check them out in my gallery, if you're so inclined  :)

Congrats to the nice Ephesus Vespasian..the issues from Ephesus have various portraits and bust types..much nicer style than most of the Rome issues.

Great.
