4 Silver Phoenicians, listing?
« on: August 06, 2007, 04:03:00 pm »
Hi all!
I bought these 4 coins with the following description:

Abdashtart I. 1/16 Shekel, Sidon, 2 coins, ANSMN 21 1976 #25.

Abdashtart II. 1/16 Shekel, Sidon, ANSMN 211976 #34.

Mazaios. 1/16 Shekel, Sidon, ANSMN 21 #33.

They all look the same to me, so which is which?

Thanks!

Andreas

With the Sidon coins, which have the ruler killing the lion, the difference is the inscription between the lion and ruler.  When I get home this afternoon (most likely at night your time), I can look them up in the reference you were given for these coins, since I do have that book.

Abdashtart I's coins are the upper right and lower left coin.  It has only one :phoenician_ayin_2: between the king and lion and  :Aramaic_beyt: above the ship on the reverse.

Mazday is the middle coin.  It has  :phoenician_zayin_1: and :phoenician_mem_3: between the lion and king.

Abdashtart II  has two  :phoenician_ayin_2: 's between the legs of the king and lion.  This would be the top left coin.

I believe it is an Abdashtart I coin because of the size of the  :phoenician_ayin_2: , and it appears to be only one of them.  On the reverse, I believe I can see the  :Aramaic_beyt: above the ship.
