I though to myself that surely there is no room on this discussion board for more than one 'sweet sweet' gallery. Then I looked at the coins and was proven wrong.
All sweet coins, thank you for sharing them with us Jay.

Thanks guys!

Here is a new pic of an early Vespasian from 70 AD that clearly has Vitellius  features.  Official portraits had probably not reached Rome yet since Vespasian was in the East. Some of these early issues have features of Galba, Vitellius and Otho.  I call him Vespellius! ;D

Recently I started hunting down these early Vitellian-like Vespasian denarii. I find their transitory features quite fascinating, more so than those lacking them.

You have an excellent example of such there!

Finally got around to re-shooting the very first denarius I ever bought!  It's a Republican denarius of Q. Antonius Balbus from the civil wars between Sulla and Marius.  Lots of luster on this choice example.  Slight flaw on the obverse or is it an intentional scoop to remove material?  It still comes in at a heavy 3.99g!

Nice photo ... I think it looks like an intentional-scoop on the obverse (neat addition to a very cool coin)

Nice coin, Jay. I think it is likely an al marco scoop, although it lacks the characteristic start/stop marks of the gouge (that can be blamed on wear).  The broad range of weights of this type are testament that the coins were produced by weighted batch, to produce an average weight, rather than by adjusting each flan to a perfect weight per piece (al peso).  Your flan likely started out much heavier.  Look on acsearch and you'll find many of this type over 4 grams; some as high as 4.2.   Range is about 3.75 - 4.25.
