Dear Forums
I got this coin, it is clearly was in muddy area, you can see that in some areas where the patina is falling, which means that the coin was in wet muddy area.
here are the photos before.
I will put the coin in DW till tomorrow and will post the steps of cleaning  :)
notic the areas I marked in red, those areas are the proof of the muddy patina, this coin should be cleaned wet, if cleaned dry the patina will fall and break.
wish me luck :)

Ok the coin is Done :)

STEP 1:  SHAVE THE COIN HIGH POINTS WHILE IT IS WET .

step 2:  WIPE THE COIN WITH CLOTH AND CLEAN THE FACE FROM DIRT.

STEP 3: CLEAN BETWEEN THE HAIR LINES.

STEP 4: CLEAN THE BUST AND AROUND IT.

STEP 5: CLEAN IN FRONT OF THE FACE TILL THE LETTERS.

STEP 6: CLEAN BETWEEN THE LETTERS AND THE EDGE OF THE COIN.

STEP 7: CLEAN AROUND THE LETTERS AND BETWEEN THEM.

STEP 8: CLEAN BEHIND THE BUST THE SAME WAY YOU DID IN FRONT OF IT.

STEP 9: CLEAN THE REVERSE SAME WAY YOU DID WITH THE OBV.

THEN YOU GET THE BEAUTY :)

BEST REGARDS.

  • Trying not to screw up...one coin at a time...
Thanks for that Salem. For me it is always much better to see the steps than to simply read how to do them! Beautiful coin as well!

Tagging this, since I've tossed similar coins to this into the "no chance" pile.

Thanks Salem, I tried my hand at cleaning up a "desert patina" coin today, following your advice. Wet cleaning works!

What type of tool was used to clean this coin? Was it a diamond dusted tool?

dont forget to sharpen it well, I use a stone for that,it has to be able to shave the coin well without pressure.

good luck.
