Anything Special? LRB
« on: July 28, 2021, 12:29:35 pm »
This coin came in a lot of late Roman bronzes, and the obverse inscription caught my eye. It reads CONSTANTINVS, but I don't see a trace of anything else either before or after that. All of the variants listed have an ending, typically AVG or similar. Is there anything unusual going on with this die, or are the letters missing due to the strike or corrosion?

Interesting coin.  Very poor strike - off-set on the flan, part blank, big crack.  Yet the style appears to be quite good.

Either a very poor quality official coin that was let through or a high quality imitation - maybe even made with official dies.

There were always lots of imitations in Gaul.

Either way it is a neat piece.
