Julian II solidus Ric 99a transfer dies fakes + mother
« on: May 17, 2018, 03:09:34 pm »
Authentic mother vs transfer die fake. There are red encrustrations on the mother which were copied as impression into transfer dies and then transferred on the transfer die fakes.
Notice that exactly the same areas of dotted are flat stuck!

Could not resist, was too tempting :(

Thanks a lot for the very informative post :)
I love how the encrustations were transferred to the die.

There is a red encrustration (dirt) in hair, too.
I have some lead strikes with identical impressions of the red encrustrations as on the fakes sold by auction houses.
but my lead impressions are struck with different reverse die from same type, the original used to mint fakes sold at auctions was already broken and thrown away.
The picture of the die is out of Ilya Prokopov´s book.

To the transfer dies in Ilya Prokopov´s book.

It seems like the right reverse die was broken already and thrown away, this is wrong reverse die from different mother. In the book are 2 obverse dies of Julian II but only 1 reverse die. He combines this 2 obverse dies always with 1 reverse die. You can guess that there must have been at the beginning 2 obverse and 2 reverse dies!

Only details from the original dies should be on authentic coins.
The realistic chance that there were exactly on all this places where the encrustrations are, die flaws with almost identical size and shape in the authentic dies is 0 !!!!

Edit found another transfer die fake

On his beard also are clearly visible.

His beard is fine, there  are die flaws at beard in authentic dies (part of metal broke out) and dies are already at a late die state already worn (metal flow will cause die erosion), so the beard details are already a little bit soft due to die wear/erosion.
