MAXENTIUS RIC VI ROMA 215

I don't like this coin - it is obviously too clumsy to be an official product. 6.92 g, seller from Serbia (no offence)

But I am still undecided: ancient imitation or (which is more probable) just modern fake?

For comparison, an official coin.

The first photo of the suspect coin is not showing up. The second one is visible, at least from my browser.

I added the first coin as attachment. Well, maybe again something with links. However, I see the picture on preview.

You should not click on “Preview”!
You will lose the image if you do.
A lesson I learned early on.

Yes, it could be a problem with attachment, but not with a link. Well, I still see this picture now in "Topic Summary" when I am writing this post. Strange.

I agree--style nothing like official coins.  You are probably right about the origin too.

Though there are some elements of style that resemble an ancient fake - Victory on the reverse and parts of the obverse face - the over-all flan shape, the wide fields outside the pearl-ring, the pearl-ring itself, and the lettering all point towards a modern struck fake to me.

It's undoubtedly modern. The style isn't even close to legit, and the fabric is way off too.

The best one can say for the seller is that he has an awesome selection of fakes available!

I posted some more examples here:

I take it the bottom coin (labelled 6rom215fake) is supposed to be the fake?

I don't see much difference in style anyway.

Are we talking about the same thing ? They look pretty comical to me.

Here's a selection.

I love the Maximian bust on the last coin - the silver one!  Seriously.  Style is of course wrong for an official coin but it looks like a cartoon of Maximian about to come to life.  If there was a cartoon Maximian I would want him to look like this.  I would buy the coin - for a fair price for a fake, say $2 - just because of the bust.

Seeing the other examples I agree.
