Byzantine coin with countermark to id #1
« on: May 16, 2023, 02:01:02 pm »
Hi,

please help with this countermarked byzantine follis. I know it's the anonymous folles class I, but I have no knowledge about the countermark. I suppose it might be islamic, perhaps from Mardin?

I will be grateful for any help :)

Mardin is a good bet, but it's a very odd shape. Seems like one of the 'lillah' types (Mardin type 16 and type 17) but struck twice.
